A soldier's tale of Iraq.
This autobiographical tale covers one woman's journey through the first wave of Operation Enduring Freedom. Deployed from February 2003 through May 2004 with the 248TH Engineer Company (Combat) (Heavy) out of Norwich, Connecticut, First Lieutenant Works recants some of the most powerful memories of her deployment and military service. Heartfelt and brutally honest, the vignettes and images this author conjures offer the reader a unique look into the combat experiences of our modern troops.

I was blown away. As a combat veteran, this book reached deep and reminded me that I'm not alone in my experiences and feelings. It is a poignant accounting of one woman's deployment and the aftereffects. The book reads as though it's a diary of the lingering pain and thoughts from moments and situations while deployed. I have never been so moved by a military-themed book. You can feel the author's emotions and self-recrimination from hindsight and overanalysis. You feel bonded to LT Works through her words and thoughts.Product details

Fascinating and revealing, a boots-on-the-ground view of Captain Works-Dennis' experiences in Kuwait and Iraq. A quick read that easily keeps your attention. I wish her peace and butterflies (you'll know what I mean when you read it)
This was a waste of my time and money. It seems like whatever you did, it was worth complaining about. I was expecting better.
I enjoyed the book - it's a raw depiction of what one female officer went through after being taken out of her comfort zone. The passage about the night patrol done on Sept. 10th in lieu of the 11th showed me what emotion she felt for her fellow soldiers. It was moving and very well written. I'm honored to say I know Dawn!
I really enjoyed this book. I think the author is very brave and honest. She put herself out there no matter what others think.
